Joomla M17n Quick Guide
--------------------------

This guide is a very simple step by step explanation that
is intended mainly for people which are not familiar with
computers, the internet or with CMS systems in general.
This quick guide explains how to get a website running
 with multilingual pages under Joomla.

1. Requirements

Download & Install Joomla, ideally version 1.5.1
 Get it at http://www.joomla.org
(link is on your right, just scroll down a bit)
 Installation instructions are here:
 http://help.joomla.org/content/category/48/268/302/

We recommend installing sample data if you are new
to Joomla so you can get familiar with its concepts.

 Download & Install language pack(s)
 http://extensions.joomla.org/index.php?cat_id=1837&Itemid=35
Each language pack may have specific install instructions
included in the package but the basic infos are here:
 http://help.joomla.org/content/view/1476/278/

2. Installation

 Download M17n Package from:
 http://www.sdic.ch/public/downloads/M17n.zip

 From Joomla's administration (yoursite.net/administrator)
Please use the top menu and go to:
	Extensions > Install/Uninstall

Under "Upload Package File" click on Browse and select the
M17n.zip file you have just downloaded. Click Open to have
the file popup closed and then press on the button "Upload
File & Install" to proceed to installation. The installer
will tell you whether it was succesfully installed or not.

2. Configuration

 From Joomla's administration (yoursite.net/administrator)
Please use the top menu and go to:
	Extensions > Module Manager

Click on "M17n - Language Selector". On the Module page,
look at the bottom left section called "Menu Assignment"
and make sur that "All" is selected. If not the case,
set it to "All" and click on "Save" at the top right
 part of the page.

3. Management

 From Joomla's administration (yoursite.net/administrator)
Please use the top menu and go to:
	Menus > Main Menu

If you installed sample data, go to step 4.

If there are no menu items, please create at least one
for each language installed but for that you need to
create articles to assign to your menus. Create a few
dummy articles. To create articles use the top menu:
	Content > Article Manager
On the top-right icons, click on "New"
Type a title and some text for your article

Go back to menus (Menus > Main Menu) and click on the
"New" icon in the top-right icons. From the list that
says "Select Menu Item Type" pick "Articles" and then
 "Article Layout" below.

Set a title on the "Title" field and on your right, on
the "Parameters - Basic" section select the article you
want for this menu. Then, click on save. Do this at least
 once for every language installed.

4. Menu language assignment

 You should now be in:
	Menus > Main Menu

Click on the title (link) of the first menu item on the
list available. On your right side, click on "M17n
Parameters". Select a language for the menu and click
 on the "Save" icon (top-right).

Repeat this operation at least once for every language
installed. It is necessary that each language you have
installed has at least one menu item set or the users
will not be able to select that language.

5. Check your site

Now access your site front-end (yoursite.net/).
On the left, under the main menu, you should now see
the Language Selector which allows your visitors to
choose what language they want to display your site
in and when selecting a language, they should be
directly taken to the matching article.

6. Further discovery

Once you will get familiar with joomla, you may want
to have a look at the install.txt and at the manage.txt
files contained in the M17n.zip so you can get a better
understanding on how M17n package works and what does all
of the options available are intended for.

7. TroubleShooting and Support

If you are getting errors or problems while installing or
the M17n package, please refer to the other documentation
(described in step 6) or address your request for support
 by email at:
	joomla@sdic.ch

Thank you very much for choosing M17n.
